Compare the top horse floats in Australia: 2026 guide

Three pastel EuroFloat horse floats parked side by side

Buying guide · 8 min read · By Wes, EuroFloat

Quick answer

Australia has several good horse float brands, and the right one depends on your horses, your vehicle and your budget. When you compare horse floats for sale, look past the headline price at five things: tare weight against bay size, flooring, warranty, what's included, and on-road costs. This guide compares six leading brands on a 2 horse angle load, using each brand's own published figures.

How we compared

G'day, Wes here. Comparing horse float brands in Australia can be hard, because every brand lists its specs differently. So we've picked one popular layout, the 2 horse angle load float (2HAL), and pulled each brand's own published figures for a comparable model.

In the interest of full disclosure, this guide is written by EuroFloat. We've kept the brand entries the same length and format, used each brand's own website or listings, and noted where a figure isn't published. Brands are listed alphabetically. Specs and prices change, so always check with the brand before you buy.

Figures from each brand's website or published listing, October 2026. The Peaceland figures come from a published promotion listing rather than Peaceland's own website. Inclusions differ between these models, so compare the full spec sheet before you decide. "Not stated" means the brand's page doesn't say, so ask for a drive-away price and what's in stock now.

Reading tare weights

Tare weight is what the float weighs empty. It decides how much of your ATM is left for horses, water and gear, and whether your vehicle can legally tow it. It's the number buyers most often take on trust, and it's worth a closer look.

  • Compare tare against bay size. A float with bigger bays, built from the same materials, will usually weigh more, not less.
  • Look for "from" and "may vary". Some listed tares are base weights before options, packs and accessories are fitted. The float you actually tow home may be heavier.
  • Check the compliance plate. Ask whether the plate shows the float's real, as-built weight.
  • Ask for a weighbridge ticket. It's the simplest way to know for sure.

At EuroFloat, our published tare weights are what's on the compliance plate, and we're happy to weigh any float on a weighbridge for you. Read more about tare, ATM and GCM

Five checks before you buy

  1. Tare against bay size. Is the published weight realistic for the size of the float, and is it the as-built weight?
  2. Flooring. Aluminium, fibreglass and timber all behave differently over time. Ask how the floor is supported and what warranty covers it. Read about float floors
  3. Warranty, in practice. Read the written terms, then ask other owners at Pony Club, shows and in local horse groups how their claims were handled. Read our warranty guide
  4. What's included. Get a list of what's standard and what's extra. Tack boxes, windows, water tanks and 240V power can be standard on one brand and an add-on pack on another.
  5. On-road costs. Ask whether the price includes registration, delivery and on-road costs. EuroFloat registers every float and covers all on-road costs, so the price you're quoted is the price you pay. Also check where the floats are built or stored. A factory closer to you can mean lower freight costs.

Which horse float is right for you?

  • Tight budget, smaller horses: look at a 2 horse straight load or a base 2HAL. Compare straight and angle loads
  • Bigger horses or longer trips: look for longer, wider bays and check the tare still suits your vehicle.
  • Long show days: consider a camper horse float with 240V power and a fridge.
  • Nights away: look at a float with living, such as an Overnighter. Read about living floats
  • Coastal areas: think about corrosion resistance in the body and floor.

Whichever brand you choose, see the float in person and tow it behind your own vehicle before you buy. It helps to choose a brand with a location you can easily visit.

Questions buyers ask

What are the top horse float brands in Australia?

Well-known brands include Crisfloats, EuroFloat, Imperial, Peaceland, Regency and Tuza. Each has strengths, so compare tare weight, bay size, flooring, warranty and on-road costs for the model you want.

What does a 2 horse angle load float weigh?

Published tare weights for the models in this guide range from around 1,200kg to 1,850kg, depending on bay size, materials and inclusions. Always check the as-built weight on the compliance plate.

Why do tare weights vary so much between brands?

Bay size, materials and inclusions all change the weight. Some brands also publish a base weight before options are fitted, so the float you tow home may be heavier than the listed figure.

Does the price of a horse float include on-road costs?

It depends on the brand. Some prices exclude delivery, registration and on-road costs. EuroFloat registers every float and covers all on-road costs.

Where can I see a EuroFloat in person?

At our factories on the Gold Coast, Queensland, and at 55 Lara Way, Campbellfield, Victoria. Book a visit and you can compare models and test drive a float behind your own vehicle.

Which horse float floor is best?

Aluminium doesn't rot, fibreglass is light and rot-proof, and timber is traditional but needs more care. Whichever you choose, ask how it's supported and what the warranty covers.
