Horse float warranties: what to ask before you buy

Quick answer

A horse float is a big investment, and a warranty is only as good as the business standing behind it. Before you buy any float, ask exactly what the warranty covers, how long it lasts, how you make a claim, how fast they respond and who does the repairs. Then ask other owners how their claims were handled. Every new EuroFloat comes with a 2-Year Warranty on the chassis, body frame, roof frame and suspension, plus an 11-Year Aluminium Flooring System warranty, and we usually respond to claims within 48 hours.

A warranty is only as good as the people behind it

G'day, Wes here. Whether you're looking at a day float, a camper horse float or a full Overnighter, you're spending tens of thousands of dollars on something that carries the most valuable passengers you own. So the warranty matters.

But here's what I tell every buyer: a warranty on paper means nothing if the business won't answer the phone when something goes wrong. Two floats can have the same warranty on paper and a completely different experience when it comes to getting a claim sorted. That's why it pays to look past the brochure and ask some hard questions before you buy any horse float, from any brand, including us.

Questions to ask any horse float brand

Take this list with you when you're looking at horse floats for sale, and ask every seller the same questions:

  1. What exactly does the warranty cover? Chassis, frame, suspension, floor, fit-out? Get it in writing.
  2. How long is each part covered, and when does it start?
  3. What's excluded? Every warranty has exclusions. Make sure you understand them.
  4. How do I make a claim, and who do I talk to?
  5. How quickly do you respond?
  6. Who does the repairs, and where? Do I have to take the float back to the factory, or can it be fixed near me?
  7. What do I need to do to keep the warranty valid? Servicing, records, approved parts?
  8. Is the business here in Australia? If something goes wrong, can you actually reach them?
  9. Can I read the full warranty before I pay a deposit?

Ask around before you buy

The best warranty information doesn't come from the seller. It comes from other owners.

  • Ask at your Pony Club, riding club or show. Horse people talk, and most will happily tell you how their float has held up and how they were treated when something went wrong.
  • Read Google reviews, especially the ones about after-sales service, not just the day of pickup.
  • Ask in local horse groups online about real warranty claims, not just how a float looks.
  • Look at how a business responds to complaints in its reviews. That tells you a lot about how they'll treat you.

Be careful with any brand you can't get good answers about. A cheap price isn't a bargain if you're left on your own with a problem six months later.

Warning signs

These don't always mean a bad float, but they're worth questioning:

  • A warranty that's only explained verbally, with nothing in writing
  • Vague answers about what's covered or how to claim
  • No clear contact for after-sales or warranty support
  • Pressure to pay a deposit before you've read the warranty
  • No showroom or service location you can actually visit
  • Reviews that mention slow or no response after the sale

Your rights under Australian Consumer Law

Whoever you buy from, the Australian Consumer Law gives you guarantees that can't be excluded, including that goods must be of acceptable quality. A business's warranty sits on top of those rights. It doesn't replace them. For more, visit the ACCC website.
